From nightclub to community center. Join us as we renovate and remodel what used to be Chester's nightclub and turn it into a community center for east Austin. It will be located on the corner of East 12th St and Airport Blvd. To hear about what we're doing, you can watch the news stories covered by News 8, Fox 7 and KXAN. You can also check out these articles by the Statesman and KLBJ.
If you're interested in helping out, we plan to have work nights from Wednesday to Friday and work days on Saturday for the next few weeks. Renovations will include painting, flooring, landscaping, construction and a lot of other fun stuff. Feel free to email us or check out our facebook group.
We can't wait to see the final product and how we can serve the city of Austin.

According to Travel and Leisure magazine, Austin has the best singles scene, but the shopping here is rated subpar. Our best feature is our live music while our worst is, sadly, public transportation. Read the rest of the findings here.
Dau is one of 27,000 Lost Boys forced to flee war-torn Sudan in 1987 when civil war broke out and the northern government began attacking the south. He will discuss how at the age of 13 he was thrown into leading 200 smaller boys across Sudan, and how it made him a stronger person. The lecture -- which touches on taking responsibility and leading others to do positive things -- will begin at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 25, in the Recreation and Convocation Center.
Dau has experienced journeys in life that most people never imagine. During their journey, the Lost Boys formed surrogate families and sought refuge from famine, disease, wild animals and attacks from rebel soldiers. After a decade of staying in refugee camps throughout Africa, Dau came to the United States in 2001 with a sponsorship from the First Presbyterian Church in Skaneateles, New York.
Following his initial culture shock - women driving cars, huge stores filled with food - he took on two jobs and has made a successful life. He is currently studying public policy at Syracuse University, and has made himself a part of many efforts to save Darfur and Sudan from conflict. He has helped raise more than $35,000 for books and medical expenses for Lost Boys in the United States, and he has helped raise more than $150,000 for the American Care for Sudan Foundation, which is building a medical clinic in southern Sudan.
Dau hopes to have a lasting impact on the future of his native country. "I want Sudan to become a place where people are welcome and hope is restored," he says.
The speech will show that when you start small -- changing yourself, your family, and your home -- you will grow as a leader and will be able to achieve greater change. The event, sponsored by Freshman Studies and St. Edward's University Programs, is free and open to the public.
Join us the next 2 Sundays for Feast & Liturgy (PM gathering only). We will, like the early church, break bread together and immerse ourselves in Scripture as a community. Come hungry and if possible bring a side dish (salad, snacks, drinks) to compliment our evening of Tex-Mex and Liturgy.
