[Vox News] January 25th Edition
[Vox AM but No PM]
Join us at 11am at Mosaic (5619 Airport Blvd for our AM Gathering. We will be continuing our series -- "Dialogue: Conversing Christ's Story"
Because the Community Center is not finished yet, we will not have Vox PM until at least March. We apologize to those that this affects. Please contact Gideon if you have any questions (gideon@voxveniae.com)
[3M Marathon Traffic]
This Sunday morning, there will be a half-marathon rolling through Austin. This will affect Campus and North Campus people trying to get to the AM Gathering. The marathon will go through Duval and San Jacinto. Please take alternative routes. For those catching a ride at Jester Beach, please be patient as drivers might have trouble getting around people in short shorts.
[New Orleans 3.0]
We are organizing our 3rd trip to New Orleans from March 9th-14th to help rebuild the city. The cost will be around $300. We have only 6 spots left! If you are interested, please contact Matt (matt@voxveniae.com) by next week.
[Neighborhoods]
Vox is beginning a new semester with the Neighborhoods. This semester, each neighborhood will be led by a staff member and we'll be going through some scripture and discussion on "what it means to live the church."
If you are interested in joining a neighborhood, please contact Weylin (weylin@voxveniae.com)
[The Revolution Media Project]
Vox would like you to be aware of a project you can be a part of:
"The Revolution Media Project is the result of a group of passionate young people who saw a need and could not let it pass without recognition.
We'll be tackling issues represented in the street teen population; why do they leave 'home' for the street? How can they be reached? What are their lives like? We'll be hitting the streets of Portland, Oregon, home to thousands of homeless people. Estimates range from 2,600-36,000. The difference between the numbers is huge but it's pretty clear that it's a big problem. Three documentaries will be produced; one will highlight what life on the street looks/feels like, another how people are reaching out to this hurting community, and the last one will discuss other issues related to street teens. There's also plans for a portrait book, highlighting the faces and stories of these teens.
Every city deals with street teens, runaways and the kids panhandling on the side of the freeway off-ramp. It's just part of life now."
How can you get involved? The Revolution Media Project's $10 campaign asks you: Would you rather watch a movie... or make one? The Project is soliciting $10 donations from individuals who want to have a part in blessing the communities around them. For the price of a movie ticket, we can help tell the story of people - in every community, really - who are often overlooked, abused and misunderstood.
The organization's Web site is here.
